Why Do We Qurbani?
The Udhiyah (Qurbani) is one of the rituals of Islam through which Muslims draw closer to Allah by slaughtering livestock on the first day of Eid Al-Adha, immediately after the Eid prayer and until the last day of Tashreeq. It is a confirmed Sunnah.
How Is the Qurbani Divided?
It is recommended to divide the meat into three equal parts: one third for eating, one third for gifting, and one third for charity.
Who Performs the Qurbani?
One sacrifice is sufficient for an entire household. A person may slaughter on behalf of themselves and their family with a single sheep, or they may sacrifice something larger such as a cow or camel. Seven people may also share a cow and slaughter it on their behalf.
The Virtue and Reward of the Qurbani?
The virtues of the Udhiyah are many, foremost among them that it is one of the symbols of Allah Almighty, and that slaughtering for Allah and drawing near to Him through offerings is among the greatest acts of worship and most exalted forms of obedience. The reward of the sacrifice is immense, as Allah forgives all sins at the first drop of its blood.
